While the first day of summer was back June, the hot temps indicate that we’re still in the thick of it. Now, hiring managers are starting to consider their expectations for the second half of the year. Before winter hits, what should we see happen in the job market? According to a report by Staffing Industry Analysts, 62% of hiring managers in the U.S. who participated in an industry survey indicated they expected hiring growth by the end of 2016. What else can we look forward to before the New Year?
Extended Time to Hire
While there is a good news on the hiring front, it seems that many companies are taking longer to fill critical positions. The survey showed that the job vacancy duration is at an all-time high at nearly a month on average. We can extrapolate that this time to high may be due to the perceived skills gap or the fear of making an incorrect hiring decision.
Healthcare and Financial Services most Difficult Industries
Out of the industries, two remained the most difficult to fill. Both healthcare and financial services have an even longer time to hire period. Healthcare jobs are remaining open more than 49 days on average, even though the industry is highly populated. The second longest time to fill goes to financial services.
Global Impact of Brexit
While most people couldn’t help but notice the immediate financial impact of the U.K.’s vote to leave the European Union, the effects may be more long term and far reaching than originally anticipated. For employers who hire and work on a global scale, there will be some time dedicated to learning how to navigate this new employment landscape.
Higher Pay for U.S. Candidates
One bright spot in this discussion is a return to higher wages for qualified U.S. employees. This comes from more confidence on the part of the candidates, who are now asking for more money than they were just 6 months prior. Companies are anticipating a rise in their salary offerings since they need to attract the top quality candidates to their jobs.
How is the outlook for your company the rest of this year?
