It’s the beginning of another new year and that means it is a good time to reinvent yourself and your career. How can you make 2015 your best year yet? Consider all the things you want to accomplish in your career over the next 12 months. Here are some ways you can work harder and smarter and reach your 2015 career goals.
Change your mind about social media.
Many people are so concerned about leaving the wrong digital footprint that they choose not to have any sort of social media presence. However, in 2015 this is no longer going to be an option. Recruiters and hiring managers are beginning to rely on digital information to make a good hiring decision. If you don’t have any online presence they will take this as a red flag and move on.
Create a market strategy without marketing.
The best marketing managers are able to sell their product without forcing it. The same should be true for your online brand. While you’re developing your social media presence create language that will draw the reader in and demonstrate your worth without a lot of flashy design. It is fine to have a logo, but don’t make it your focus. Stick with one, strong profile photo, create a bio that shares your story and don’t make major changes.
Become a thought leader in your industry.
Now, you need to take your online presence to the next level. It is a good idea to purchase your own website domain name to keep it from becoming associated with something negative. Use your personal website to have an online portfolio and resume. Most importantly, start a blog. This will position you as an expert in your field. Use social media to promote your work and be sure to comment on other blogs in your industry.
Shed any excess baggage holding you back.
Lastly, you want to take a look at the bad habits or ideas that have been holding you back. It is time to let go of things that aren’t working and replace them with these new and fresh ideas. Look at your current job. Is it taking you on the right career path? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you aren’t where you want to be, you may need to make some changes now.
